Shibori no Hana- Handmade Silk Shibori Flowers
Instructor: Glennis Dolce; Shibori artist and teacher, her work can be viewed at shiborigirl.wordpress.com. Skill: all levels. Time: Friday August 15th, 6:30-8:30 pm. 2 hour workshop. Workshop fee $75- Materials Included. Just as in nature, the variety and beauty of silk shibori flowers is immense; limited only by our imagination, the flowers we can create with pleated silk shibori ribbons are endless. Silk shibori ribbon flowers are inherently unique due to the hand dyeing process of the shibori ribbon. This Japanese technique imparts not only color but texture to the ribbon and adds an additional dimension to silk flower work.  Using silk satin shibori ribbons, you will learn to create several styles of silk flowers that can be used as corsages, millinery decoration, as well as many other decorative applications. Exploring Shibori Techniques
Instructor: Glennis Dolce Shibori artist and teacher, her work can be viewed at shiborigirl.wordpress.com.  Skill: all levels. Time: Thursday August 14, 6:30-9:30 3 hour workshop. Workshop fee $150-All Materials included.  Using a special dyeset that sets instantly on silk without heat or chemical fixing agents we will explore various shibori techniques including itajime, makiage, and arashi shibori.  We will also use these dyes and shibori techniques to dye ribbon and cording that can be used in jewelry making and other art making purposes. This workshop is for anyone who wishes to explore color and shibori techniques on silk in a creative and free form way using traditional techniques in new and exciting ways. Workshop time is creative time, a place to let go and free yourself from the constraints of daily life.  It is time for exploring learning and sharing .  My goal is to offer a workshop that teaches techniques and inspires you to explore your own directions as you gain mastery through practice.  Many samples of my own work as well as collected shibori samples and books will be available for students to view.  Many types of silk fabric will be on hand for students to work with. Flapper Felt Hat Making
Instructor: Jan Wutkowski; millinery artist in Wilmington, NC, and owner of aMuse: artisanal finery, a wearable art boutique specializing in custom hats and headpieces. Wutkowski studied millinery with Waltraud Reiner at the Melbourne School of Millinery, and has taught traditional hat making throughout the United States, England, and Australia, since 1998, and was one of only two US milliners to be invited to teach at the International Millinery Forum in Australia this year.Skill: all levels. Garment Design
Instructor: Susan Lazear; a Professor of Fashion at Mesa College in San Diego. There she teachers fashion courses in textiles, pattern making, ethnic costume, fashion history, and computer design. Susan designs wearable art, fine art crafts and is a computer graphic artist. In addition, she combines her skills in the creation of a line of software for designers and textile artists under the Cochenille Design Studio name, and teaches computer and design workshops around the world.Skill: all levels. Creative Fiber Bead, Pendant, and Earring Set

East Meets West… Simple and Unique Garment Design

Workshop fee: $140.The Sea Foam Necklace is made on a Japanese Marudai braiding table.  The Marudai is a round table about three feet high with a small hole in its center.  You will learn both how to set up the Marudai and how to perform the actual braiding.  You will be able to finish the necklace during the class. Kumihimo braiding is a quick and easy technique to learn. The braid used to make the Sea Foam Necklace is a most exceptional and inventive kumihimo braid. When completed, it will seem as though strands of interior beads are caged inside of an exterior braid. The color way is reversed for the second side of the necklace to achieve a complete color transformation. Gold Slip Fusion Pendant

Workshop fee $160.Apply powdered pure gold onto a fine silver sheet, to create a spectacular patterned design on the surface of pendant shapes.  This inventive technique was pioneered by the instructor.  Learn to skillfully mix 24K gold powder with a common binder to form a paintable slip.  Then apply by hand with a brush onto a silver pattern of your choice with additional details etched through to reveal the silver.  The gold is then permanently fused to the silver with a hand held butane torch.  Students will be able to texture one or more sheets and create a richly embellished jewelry component. Flapper Felt Hats

French Silk Flower Making

Trapped In Place Stone Pendant

Creative Fiber Beads
